1⁄35Non-skid Surfaces

method
Here is another simple technique for producing non-skid surfaces on Modern AFVs. All it requires is a spray can or bottle of your favorite primer, masking tape, a hobby knife, and about 12 inches (30 cm) of distance between you and your model. Of course the first step is to determine the areas which will receive the coating and tape off the areas that will remain smooth. Once you have completed the tedious task of carefully masking off and cutting around the areas with your hobby knife, you are ready to start..
Now this is the trick to the whole thing; hold your spray can/airbrush about 10 to 12 inches (30 Cm) directly over the model, spray paint the area using short panning strokes from left to right to up and down until the designated areas are completely covered. The distance the paint has to travel will create the orange peel affect we are all aware of when we all were learning how to spray paint. I used a spray can of Testors’ gray modeling primer for my project, which is a little denser in its mixture. However, keep in mind using the airbrush is just as good, the texture will be a finer mixture and depending on what you are trying to accomplish may require more or less application to your project depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

Looks good. Basically the same technique that I described a while back using Rustoleum Terra Cotta Texture Paint. Here is my earlier post.
