I have forsaken the usual method of dios. Because I never have anything leave the premises any longer I don't finish a dio with a nice looking base and everything. All is constructed with just photography in mind. I now make "sets" that can be used like in the movies. This lets me move faster when I put together an episode in th series about Epsom. The largest "set" I have so far is about one foot by eight inches roughly. I am working on a village set much larger though.
In other words, it's all smoke and mirrors old son. LoL

Genius! I had been thinking of doing something along the same lines (easy to think of, less easy to do!), but you've gone and done it! Love the latest figure BTW.

Hi Jerry,
It might be 'smoke and mirrors', but it's a great idea, and you've done an amazing job of it...doubt Industrial Light and Magic could have done better in their good old days before everything became CGI,.
Makes me think I might create one small generic diorama for each theatre of operation, e.g. NW Europe, Italy, North Africa, & Far East etc.
Could then focus on different vehicles and figures and photograph them against a suitable base...would solve my space issue for lots of separate dioramas,.

Here are a few bits I did manage to build lately. A British type "L" field phone and wire spool and some ready HE rounds with carrier. I need to find pics of a fuse setting wrench.

Jerry, you mentioned "The Scenic Factory" earlier in the post as to where you get most of your foliage from. Does anyone in the UK know of a place over here we can get the same type of stuff or an outlet here ? Do model railway shops cater to our needs for these items nowadays ? I havent been in one for years.

Model railroad stockists have been the best places to go for scenery stuff for years, IMHO.
Also the great outdoors is a great supplier of bits to use. But the interwebs can also be your friend of course.

The soil is from the garden. No sifting,just some crushing with the flat edge of an old butter knife. Low tech,as usual,
