I have started to make my own backpacks and other soft packs as well because it is way easier to get them to conform. You should give it a try using regular modeling clay first to practice. Not as hard as you might think. If I can do it I'm sure you can as well.
Having said that you may also try sanding flat the part of the pack you want to make contact with the vehicle. Then put a thin layer of putty on that flat surface and trim it to fit all around to blend it in. When it has gotten a bit firmed up, press it onto the vehicle. You may have to trim again but that should do the trick ?

Hi Jerry,
Thanks for the feedback on the packs, I did have a go with some two-part putty, but not great,

. However, because they were the right size and shape, and fitted better, I decided to use them, but covered them with a tarp, my thoughts being the crew would want to keep their kit as dry as possible when not carried on their backs,

.
However, I will give it another go as I think it's always hard to make the plastic kit packs and pouches fit properly in most cases.
Cheers,

,
