Nice progress, that rudder should looks short! I wonder how quickly the ship turned.

I always like how rapidly you move forward on these, Si![]()
Just as Russ says, that's more than just a little progress! Very nice and clean work as always, and really fun to see her growing!
Cheers

Si,
Looks like everything is fitting nicely or did you have to fiddle with those pieces?

Admirable work Simon.
As opposed to your Intrepid, Ranger's superstructure design, between hanger deck and flight deck is a great boon to this model's construction, whereas Intrepid's superstructure sat flush with the hull sides.
If my builds of Essex Class ships in 1/700 are any measure, I spend/spent more time filling those seams, between hull and superstructure, than any other part of the build.
I should note that on American carriers of that era, superstructure was considered anything above the hanger deck, Lexington and Saratoga being notable exceptions.
Carry on. I learning something new each time you post a progress report.
Lovely work so far Si. I have always like the looks of the Ranger so might have to get one.....Cheers Mark
Simon: I don't know if you build aircraft or not, but I ran across something that may be of interest to you while I was researching decals for another project of mine. Starfighter Decals has a set of decals available for Ranger's Operation Leader aircraft. They are available in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale. Each set includes the markings for an F4F, a TBF, and an SBD.
Thought it might be an interesting show display for you to have Ranger and the aircraft that flew from her off Norway. Evidently Ranger's aircraft were marked a bit differently than what you normally see as the color schemes on these three aircraft.
Have been away for a bit of a family vacation, Si, but catching up now: those big bits are looking good![]()
Simon: When you do Ranger's air group check and make sure they are F4F3's (non-folding wings) and not F4F4's (their wings folded).
Information I have says that Ranger carried the older model off Norway.
If this is so, and it comes from a credible source, then Ranger was the last to use the Dash 3 in combat, and that would make Ranger the first carrier to get the Dash 3 Wildcat, and the last to have them.
The weather was kind enough, just, to allow me to spray the superstructure sides.
The interior walls prayed off white.
Next will be detail fitting around the hanger deck sides.
Cheers
Si
