Good old WEM provide some very nice etched parts that should transform the very bland kit parts.
Hopefully there will be something to see on that in the next update.

Real life has greatly reduced workshop time recently, and this week will be pretty much the same.
However there has been some progress since the last update.
The rangefinder issue has been solved by Dragon's generosity, a sprue from one the Zerstorers yielded a an unused pair.
The after superstructure railings, to make bending and fitting easier, I have cut it into three sections, the two curved sections and the straight.
All done, including the ladders, these were left overs from an eduard fret.
The boat racks fixed in place.
The transport boat test fitted.
It is not brilliant. However, with the cabin removed, ready to tale the WEM etch.
starting to look better.
WEM etch fitted, except for the awning, this has been left off facilitate painting.
The motor cutter, which was also very plain, improved with some etched thwarts.
More soon.

They were needed, the kit cabin is way too small and lacking detail, the etch was a very good fit too.

I have to admit I find complex bends like on one section almost impossible., cutting them into sections makes it much easier, I just need to be careful where I leave the open end.

Some small progress.
The two pulling boats to bit fitted around the midships structure painted.
The cradles for them fitted in place. No etched replacements for there parts, but then I am not sure that is the right medium.

Great photograph, very useful indeed. I am using the kit mount, WEM has some useful etch on the fret, and I can probably find a few more bits and pieces in the spare etch box.

I know the transport boat would not sit on it's cradle with an awning raised, but it is such a nice piece of etch it would have been a shame not to use it.
Fitted in place.
The Torpedo tubes, the kit control position is not the best. The WEM parts are rather good, and a spare binocular mount added for the sight.
The base of the kit twin 37mm mounts as provided. Thanks to the photo provided by Gaz, I went on a detail hunt.
With some left over Pontos parts added to the base.
The kit main armament. It is a quite acceptable rendition of the parts considering not much will be seen on the completed vessel.
The breaches.
and with the shields fitted.

The guns look great, and the open torpedo mounts are greatly helped by the WEM parts. And are much more interesting than the later covered version.

Hi Gaz,
Yes they are, that, the cabin and the awing are all from the WEM etch.
I do like the open TT's too, a they add a bit of interest, it is nice to get good aftermarket for them too.

The 37mm guns. The kit barrels are a little stubby.
With a left over barrel from a dragon mount (pity I don't have two complete spares) for comparison,
I think I shall invest in some Veteran mounts as a replacement.
The main guns given a coat of paint.

It is Yellow, I think the colour balance on the camera needed a tweak. Kriegsmarine units taking part in operation Weserubung, the invasion of Norway had their turret / gunhouse roofs painted yellow as additional air recognition.
