Now ArrivingHaltepunkt "Amtzell"
is a Laser-Cut Kit
, item 66001
. Amtzell is actually 2-3 kits in this set, including a station building, small goods shed and a roofed outside waiting area. NOCH's Laser-Cut series have pre-colored and textured components which allow a modeler to build an impressive model without harmful paints and solvents.
Haltepunkt Amtzell Laser-Cut kit
measures 21.9 cm x 8.6 cm, 8 cm (8.62 in. x 3.39 in., 3.15 in.).
" translates to "Holding/Stop Point", or station Amtzell. Amtzell Station is a small station of the type found on secondary lines, or main line flag stops. These stations were usually built with an upper home for the station agent and family. Some small stations and depots displayed elaborate architectural trim rivaling even the most ornate private homes. An example is the larger station in Cochem;
...a masterpiece of the German Heimatstil ("home style") architectural style around the turn of the century.
I searched for the history of Amtzell station and as best as I can discern, Amtzell was part of the Royal Württemberg State Railways (Königlich Württembergischen Staats-Eisenbahnen
Laser-CutLaser-cut models are made from special, high quality, stable, DIN certified and age resistant NOCH laser cardboard. The finely detailed, delicate models are laser engraved, many of them hand-painted and weathered. The models are manufactured from renewable raw materials thus being especially environment friendly.
In the boxHaltepunkt Amtzell
(Amtzell Station) is packed in a light weight one-part "NOCH yellow" box with hinged lid. Making good use of their resources, this universal box with generic NOCH box art has the kit label taped around it. On the back are images of the model and the model in a diorama, a dimension diagram, multilingual descriptions, and contact information.
NOCH printed many signs for the facility on the inside of the box sides. They are printed in HO, TT, and N scales.
Inside is a large 20-gram tube of Uhu special transparent 4-minute curing glue, a loose polystyrene guttering set (Item 56400 Gutter System
), a sealed bag of frosted vellum for the windows, and several lased sheets for each of the major structures:
1. Station building
2. Goods shed (baggage/freight house)
3. Roofed outside waiting area
Several medium-weight press board sheets with laser-cut parts are in each bag. I did not count the number of pieces but estimate there are well over 100 individual parts.
The components are precisely laser-cut. Surprisingly, not all edges are singed by the laser. The parts are cut through and held to their sheet by two very small connectors. They are easy to cut out. Parts mate to each other via a tab and slot method.
NOCH laser-etched a great deal of detail into their pieces. Detail includes both texture and parts. High quality texture sheets are entirely engraved by laser. A complex laser beam machining process removes material and thus creates a realistically structured surface.
Aside from the amazingly thin window framing, look at the detail laser-etched into the windows and door. Extremely fine lines are burned into them representing wood detail, hinges, muntins, and the door handles. Look at the window and door exterior detail: trim, jambs, and framing.
Exterior building detail is very impressive, too. The walls are lased to resemble board and batten construction. The boards are textured with striations to simulate wood grain.
The roof sheets have excellent shingle detail. The chimney effectively represents brickwork. NOCH's technique of laser-etching this material achieves great detail.
Documents and Instructions
Two instructional booklets guide you through assembly in five languages:
The instructions consist of grayscale graphics and line drawings, keyed with symbols.
Additionally, NOCH provides you with a PDF of the instructions on their website.
None is necessary. All parts are in color. I have painted doors and windows on other NOCH Laser-Cut kits and found the paint worked well without warping the board.
NOCH is skilled with their laser work and this model looks to be expertly cut, and incredibly detailed. I have built models of acrylic, cardstock, foamcore, Hydrocal, metals, plaster, plexiglass, resin, styrene, urethane and woods. This press board seems different from the cardstock. The laser cuts are sharp and I look forward to trying it out. Texturing is great. I appreciate the pre-coloring.
If this model assembles as well as other NOCH Laser-Cut buildings, then it should be a quick, enjoyable process. A beautiful model should be the result. I have been very impressed with the models in this line, from large industrial buildings, to small bee houses.
I do not have any complains about this model and I look forward to assembling it. I happily recommend it.
