Osprey Publishing has, in addition to their well-known books on uniforms, AFVs, Fortifications and Military history, also have a range of extremely useful books dealing with the modelling of particular vehicles or aircraft. The coming months will see the publication of some new and interesting titles in this series...
Three new titles are scheduled for release in the coming months - two covering armor subjects and the third in aircraft.
Beginning with the two armor titles, the next will be:
Modelling the SdKfz 251 Halftrack
(Osprey Modelling 6)
Author: Robert Oehler
US Price: $17.95
UK Price: £12.99
Following on from a veritable flood of Sdkfz 251 Halftracks in 1/35th scale in the last few months (and more to come in the next few months) from both AFV Club and DML this seems to be a logical step for Osprey I do however tend to wonder if one book can cover a great deal of this vehicle as their were 22 variants on several different production models...
The content of the book:
Introduction
Materials
Modelling the subject
Intermediate build
Advanced build
Master build
'Special feature'
Further reading, media and websites
Museums and collections
Kits available
Index
Publication is scheduled for November 2004.
The second title:
Modelling the M113 Series
(Osprey Modelling 14)
Author: Graeme Davidson
US Price: $17.95
UK Price: £12.99
This forthcoming book covers an immensely popular subject for both modellers and manufacturers. For over 40 years, the M113 series has been the mainstay of many of the World's armies. Produced under licence in many countries and with a multitude of locally produced variants, the M113 is well-represented in modelling form from the major kit manufacturers. This forthcoming book will also help to identify some of the variants of the vehicle.
The contents of the book are:
Introduction
Identifying M113 variants, and how to model them
Tools
Modelling Projects
Special Project; M-113 ‘Lynx’ Reconnaissance Vehicle, Canadian Army
Further Reading, Media and Websites
Museums and Collections
The book is scheduled for release in January 2005
The third and final fothcoming modelling title from Osprey is an aviation title:
Modelling the P-40
Hawk 81, Tomahawk, Warhawk and Kittyhawk
(Osprey Modelling 15)
Author: Brett Green
US Price: $17.95
UK Price: £12.99
The P-40 is again one of those 'well-covered' subjects in model form. A number of kits are available in various scales and there is a veritable mountain of AM parts and decals available. It is also an attractive modelling subject, bridging as it does, color schemes from the 1930s until the end of WWII.
The contents of the book are:
Introduction
The P-40N in detail
P-40B 'Flying Tiger', 1/32nd
'Kiwi' Kittyhawk Mk.Ia, 1/48th
RAAF Kittyhawk Mk.IV 'Black Magic', 1/48th
French P-40F, North Africa, 1/48th
A Warhawk built for two: TP-40N trainer, 1/48th
RAF Desert Kittyhawk Mk.Ia, 1/72nd
