Alpine Miniatures

The New feature a brief explanation
There are a number of reasons for his new feature. Firstly, there are so many new modellers on the site, who perhaps having been away from the hobby for so long, are unaware (as I was) when they return to the hobby. Many will also live in areas where they have little or no access to hobby stores and therefore magazines or particularly the 'web are their only means of discovering what is available in an increasingly complex market. Secondly, it is part of a continual process of increasing the already significant resources here - on Armorama. Finally, it is a (small) means of saying Thank You to our site sponsors and advertisers, without whom, the site would not exist.
The Company - Alpine Miniatures
Alpine Miniatures are based in New Jersey, U.S.A. and is owned by Taesung Harmms, who also does the sculpting of the masters. The company has been around for little over a year and is already causing a great deal of respect and acclaim in the modelling world.

Unlike some other companies in the market, Alpine has concentrated (up until now at least) exclusively on 1/35th scale. They have also concentrated many of their releases on a (strangely) neglected area - AFV Crews. Their figures are produced in resin as are the products of many other smaller companies for a simple economic reason. To produce injection moulds for plastic figures or kits is a hugely expensive undertaking and despite some recent advances, the quality is marginally inferior to resin. Therefore for a undertaking and despite some recent advances, the quality is marginally inferior to resin. Therefore for a company like Alpine Miniatures, resin is the only logical choice. Many modellers unfairly criticise the smaller companies assuming that they can produce a box of figures for $10 . This is simply impossible.

In my opinion at least, a figure company can quickly be judged by the imagination they instill in their new releases In the case of Alpine they are covering the popular subjects - WWII German figures but are also covering the 'poor relations' of the hobby - Soviet Tank Crews for example, and to a lesser extent, U.S: AFV Crews.

The product list
One of the innovative features of Alpine's range, is that their figures come with a choice of two heads. The advantages of this are numerous, for me it adds a freshness to an individual casting otherwise everything, no matter how well painted, would develop a dreary sameness. This feature is something that other companies should seriously consider.
