Hello All,
I am 35 and a military historian. I have studied S.E. Asian culture and the millitary history of Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. My views are opinions are just that....opinions. My studies have been extensive. I have many friends who are also veterans of the U.S. Millitary, Vand Pao's Hmong army, and civilians who lived through the American involvement in Vietnam's civil war. I also study Vietnamese history at Yale. I also do an unhealthy amount of reading on the subject.
I tried to start a little conversation on the subject in the forum but I did not get much feedback. I hope to see topics related to S.E. Asian history on this forum in the future.

Hey guys.
I have a BA in Politics (QUB) but my thesis and main interest is in the Chinese military, especially how it is modernizing as of late and what that means for other countries.
I'm thinking of heading back to Uni to do a Masters to further my research and see where that takes me.
Apart from China my main historical interest is 20t/21st Century military history with a particular emphasis on Vietnam (probably got that from watching all those Nam films when I was a kid!).

Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself.

Hi Guys

No formal history education here, just a BA in Fine Art

I'm mainly interested in the British involvement in WWII, Especially the BEF, North African Campaign, Greece and Crete, and Italy

Especially interested in the Armoured aspects of these and infantry tanks in particular, although you can't study their use without studying infantry involvement and tactics too

Still have a wider interest in WWII though, most recently expanding into the pacific campaign thanks to the TV series probably

Also interested in the Falklands War (and can bore for England on the subject) due to my Father's time there.

The dynamic between strategy and politics also interests me

My interest in history is quite broad in scope.

I love ancient history and all the wonders of early Egypt (although I have a hard time swallowing some of the Egyptologist theories). I also have a huge interest in the Napoleonic wars straight through to the USA's involvement in Afghanistan.

Pretty wide ranging here. My main interests are maritime 1900-1950 ocean liners like Titanic, Lusitania, Queen Mary, Normandie, and so on. 1939-1945 WWII is another big area of interest followed by automotive history mainly Chevrolet and Ferrari 1950-preent. with smaller focuses on WWI, Vietnam, Korea, And the Persian Gulf conflicts from the early 90's to present OIF/OEF.

Hi All,
Have had an interest in History that school almost bludgeoned out of me, but a keen interest in politics kept the flame alive. At quite a young age I soon realized that politics equaled conflict and conflict equaled politics, so armed with this totally unoriginal thought I was off to university, as a result I now have a BA in Politics, Philosophy and History from University of London. I pretty much subscribe to Marx’s Dialectic on History; I also tend towards the revisionist camp.
Period of general interest Europe from 1500, but from the English Civil War to the present really get my juices flowing where the politics starts to play the big game.
Military history tends toward the post WWII, Mid East, USSR, War pack-NATO. Currently reading a The Cold War a Military History by David Miller, a technical book but very illuminating and Leningrad, city by Anna Reid, a stunning work.

I started out building aircraft, when I was about 6. I quickly transitioned into cars, then sci-fi. I went back to planes, for a few years. But, I found my true calling, with WWII German armor. I primarily build panzer IIIs and IVs. I progressed from ancient history to WWII. Now, I have nearly 20 gigs of information on Panzer IIIs and IVs.

As for me, I have a great fascination and love for history of all eras, but my primary "area of expertise", if you will, is French & Indian War in the Northeast, American Revolution and WWII. The first two, because I grew up in the Adirondack mountains of New York, and was surrounded by history. If I went an hour in any direction, I could be anywhere from Ticonderoga, to Saratoga, to Whitehall and even Vermont.

WWII because as a kid, I was fascinated listening to stories of those who served. From my, and my friends grandparents to my scoutmaster.

I've just recently started to become very interested in WWI, primarily because of the vast amount of acceptable carnage. The battle of the Somme in particular, fascinates me and astounds me in the number of casualties in one day. It's also the time frame where tried and true tactics were useless and the tactics of modern warfare were in their infancy.

I'm fortunate to be currently working for a a major command for the US military, which has allowed me to strike up a friendship with the historians. They kow my love of history and are more than willing to show me artifacts dating back to the 1770s. An invaluable resource when it comes to building dioramas!

My biggest history interests are the Napoleonic Wars, The Second World War and the Falklands Conflict (again due to my father being involved, I was 7 at the time).

Nothing formal but have been an avid reader of ww2 history mainly with a emphasis on waffen ss or anything to do with allied para units. Served 5 yrs in Airborne Regt myself. Father was an officer in waffen ss , mainly used as an interpreter for his mastery of several languages. Father in law was a gunner on a Liberator bomber in far east during ww2. My modeling interests are figures.

I love to read about WWII and Rome. Those were both innovative times in history.

I love studying the Second World War era. In terms of my history background, my grandmother's oldest brother was caught up in the infamous bombing of Darwin, he was onboard a australian navy ship when a bomb hit the deck and set fire to his hair. He then jumped overboard in an effort to put out the flames

Well I got my start in history around... Hmm.. Probably I was around 6 or 7 and I just became intrigued in a little thing called history I guess. I don't know, I was 6. But I enjoy post-reconstruction history. Mostly from 1900 onwards to the fall of the Soviet Union. I'm no history major or historian but I do know a good deal. I do enjoy watching the History Channel (when they have actual shows about history on), the History Channel 2 (which actually has historically based shows), the Military History Channel (even more historically base shows), and AHC (which used to be the Military Channel and it is almost ENTIRELY historically based shows). Plus the Pentagon Channel occasionally (DVIDS is nice). I'm I'm the middle of reading Antony Beevor's The Second World War and I recently picked up a new book.

I've been studying military history since I was five. My school's library had several books on WWI aviation and knights. I continued to study aviation(my dad retired from the FAA) for several years. However, I built ships as wells aircraft. My first model was Testors C-130. I fell out of the general modeling community, when I started playing WarHammer. Several years later, I started building aircraft again. Fell back out of the hobby. Returned in 2004, with more aircraft. Fell back out of the hobby. Returned six years ago, building WWII German armor. I love the panzer IIIs and IVs. I have recently moved to Allied armor. As a result, I am selling part of my German library to invest in Allied material.

I see you're also new to the KitMaker Network, Cam so welcome.

I was about your age when I first developed as serious interest in the Second World War. I see it as a part of human history that affected the world with the most change in the shortest period of time.

My principle historical interests is in all aspects in WWII and I've been spending more time lately in WWI history lately, but all aspects of history interests me.

Evert trip my wife and I take we always look towards the historical aspects available of every place we visit.

Vietnam War era vet, SAC 1967-71. I am very interested in all history, specifically Europe 1500-1800, US WW2 - today, Israel 1948 until today. I know and understand weapons systems, military strengths and weaknesses, etc. No - I am definitely not an expert. Thanks
