Bob--you did not become an Officer because of a line in a movie?

Well, not really. It's just one of several lame excuses (and a poor attempt at humor). Truth is, I was just having too much fun as an enlisted man. #:-)

A bit ironic to think that now, about half my friends are active or retired commissioned officers. When I enlisted 25 years ago (on 14 Sep 77), I had absolutely no intention of making the Army a career. If I knew then what I know now, I probably would have taken up one of the offers to go to OCS or West Point prep.

A ways back Jeff complimented me on my memory. Got to disappoint you on that one, fellas.... I own the film on VHS and have watched it gazillion times. I also have Hunnicutt's book in my Sherman library so I could easily identify the tanks themselves.

Yeah, Oddball did use the Tiger's main gun to blow open the bank doors. Just before buying it with his share of the loot. Wonder how he got it home....

Scott--I have to add to this growing list the "Thin Red Line" which one of our fellow contributors put in the best film category. Worse film I ever sat through. What a bomb

I have to agree with cav (thin red line/worst ever), all those shots of the natives swimming and the guys wife on the swing??? I could barely understand what was going on. It did have some good battle scenes but overall it seemed like the director was on drugs when he made it.

Scott--can you even come up with the plot or story line for this bummer? The book is fantastic, but the film rythmns with ducks.
