Not letting any grass grow under my bench I have begun something new.
The first element is underway. The horse is a gift from a buddy and is from a Riich kit. Here it is with the neck lowered and th harness added.

And after I slathered some paint on it.

It is just setting in an old dio to take a pic.

Yeah, how hard can that be - some lead foil, brass, then just “slather” on some paint...!! Lol - if it was just that easy....great work as always, Jerry

Really nice work! The mane & tail look natural,, almost like you used bits from an old wig, or similar frizzy item.
Even my pick-up is panzer grey.

The leather of the harness looks great! And so does the horse's mane . . . excellent.

Beautiful work Jerry , very cool horse and traces .
Ok , I'm going to be the first one , someone always has to be the bigger person and let Jerry have it , I'm surprised no one else has had the foresight to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity .
He posted this and he has no one else to blame but himself , I mean good lord it's like picking low hanging fruit . My only hope is that no one else is taking advantage of this and typing while I am .
Well here goes , .................
Jerry it's good to see you starting something so soon after your last wonderful build , even tho you're just horsing around .

Great work as always Jerry. How about sending in some 'How it's Done' features for us mortals?

Jerry
You've got the look of that heavy, thick leather perfect, in shape and finish.
The horse itself is excellent too
Looking forward to seeing where this is heading.
Cheers

Got some groundwork finished up finally. Had a hard time getting back to the bench after the awesome vacation we had.

Moving along briskly now because of all the rain here. Down in the basement again at work.

Good job J. love the mane and tail. Just one observation. Being a horse person (my family breeds horses), there is one thing about chestnut colored horses; their coat tends to be darker at the top, and lighter toward the sides and bottom of the belly. I know you are also playing with light, but it struck me as odd. Here are a couple of examples:

I was hoping you would write a how to on improving model horses plus the painting and finishing techniques you use.

I think a how-to on the horses would be pretty great myself, as I have been contemplating the Florian Geyer German cavalry figure set by Dragon but painting animals is something I've not done yet.

Looking nice. The horse looks great, but hard not to admire the groundwork too.
What is your plan for the overall scene?

Good point! Thanks. The pics I took of some much less purebred horses didn't show that as much. This horse is a lowly farmhorse and a worker. Your pics there show a superb horse/s. Arabian stock? I see the smallish nose.
