Since Verlinden went out of business various sellers on ebay have been trying to cash in. Asking >$100 for his plaster diorama sets.

I now see that Dragon Hobby has joined in that fray; sure business is business and everyone is out to make a buck. I can see jacking up the prices on painted and finished Verlinden pieces, but an unfinished plaster kit?? Take a look at the following:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Verlinden-1-35-The-Farmyard-Horse-Barn-w-Water-Well-Farm-Stable-Diorama-1362-/182577037939?hash=item2a82708273

The modeling community is small and tight knit and I believe very loyal and supportive to their favorite vendors. Not everything is or should be about the almighty dollar. There are vendors out there, both on and off ebay who have left their Verlinden prices alone, Scalehobbyist being one. Those are the vendors I will continue to support....

Just my rant of the day.....

LOL! Wow. $135 with shipping to my neighborhood. I think it was $30 originally. What a joke.

It's all about supply and demand. When something becomes somewhat of a rarity, as this piece seems to have done, pricing rules go out the window. One of these sold on Ebay 2 weeks ago for under $35, last week another sold for $75. Who knows, maybe someone out there will feel the $135 is a reasonable price for something no longer readily available. You can't fault anyone for wanting to cash in on the "collectiblity" market.

True enough, everyone wants to make their dollar at the end of the day. If it were happening across the board with all vendors handling Verlinden it's one thing, but when a select few decide to it makes them stick out like a sore thumb.....

Bear in mind it's the purpose of business to make sure a fool and his money are parted! I certainly wouldn't spend that much, but I don't begrudge anyone who thinks he can attract a sucker.

I'm not really acquainted with a lot of Verlinden's offerings, but after going through the other items DH has recently sold, it doesn't look like they're doing the price hikes on every item.

Sorry to see him go,glad I bought a bunch back thru the years.

I know I have the Russian barn and quite a few others.

DCS was a big one back thru 80's 90's.

I don't think all vendors keep up with the hobby news and they might not know that Verliden is no more. Granted it's a bigger company then most but that would a lot to keep up with all cottage companies comings and goings. Depending on how they get their inventory, that might be just a line item on what is available.

I would have to disagree that they did not know. Towards the end of Verlinden, they became the sole distributor, taking over for sale directly from Verlinden. They were also given the final inventory from Verlinden. They know exactly what they are doing.

As for Dragon Hobby, I used to deal with them, but due to the eBay shipping, I have found their shipping cost extremely high, and even when they said they would combine shipping and refund me the difference they never did. I will no longer deal with them.

I don't disagree on some vendors but as I said it depends on how they get there inventory. Some go through other distributors, other eBay sellers, model shows or model collections.
