The last two are done!

Of course I couldn't help myself, so I've started work on the alternate ending!

I think this is the right move...

Tim, I gotcha! This build has spent a long time on the shelf, but I figured it was time to take it home! The figures we're my biggest hang up. I did order the 170's, but I'm not sure where that will end up. The figures will work with what I have on the bench now so I'm planning on finishing up what I have. There may be an alternate ending to the build, but right now one ending will do! So I'll keep plowing forward at a snails pace! Hang in there J (F3066) one way or another we'll find an end to this build!

Gee Jonathan you’re really rushing this build!

Only just caught up with this, seriously impressive work & it looks fantastic. But my blood froze when I saw you’re considering buying one or more MB Type 170’s – see my thread somewhere on page 1 of the Dio forum. To do it justice i.e. to your exacting standards, be prepared to spend another 6 years fixing that one up. MiniArt also does a Type 170, it cannot possibly be worse and is probably a whole lot better.

That’s my good deed for the day, take it or leave it!

Cheers,

Tim

The sculpt is coming along...

Hopefully I'll get some pockets on tomorrow an then he will be ready for paint!

I took a look back in the post and got the seating arrangements adjusted to the original plan.

Conor, nice to see that you are still out there and following along!

I have a couple more figures finished...

The bigger deal is that I think I finally figured out what is behind the Horch!! After looking at this picture for so long, I think I finally have it

I think it is a Mercedes 170 VK

I went ahead and ordered a couple versions to see what I can come up with!!

Well, here we go! I've got the gunner painted up and mounted...

Right now it looks like there may be only two figures to re-sculpt.

It is amazing ! The upgrade of flak 38 is great, and I consider superb some details of the horch, i.e. the engine and the seats. Very great job and thank you for sharing

J, I'm sorry man... There isn't much to update, and... probably won't be much to update for a while. The weather is getting nicer and it's time again to move my activities out in the sunshine!
Now that's not to say there won't be something now and then. I picked up another smaller set of silicon brushes, a couple of new reference kits...

and I built something I've been wanting for a while now...

That's right, I'm on the way to pressure casting!!!

So, when I do get going on the figures again, I'll be sure to throw something up here.

Well Conor, I was hoping this entry would be the one to make that happen... but it's not looking good. I've been putting in the hours trying to finish it all up and dang it's close.
I added some crates and the white tarp to the back of the truck,

I used some decal protectant sheet to keep a thin smooth look.

The deal breaker is the sculpting...
I started the painting, and the sculpting just isn't up to snuff. I've improved my skills, but I think I need to make one more run at em'.

So, it's kind of disappointing, but I gotta do it right!

After watching this unfold over the past 2 years, I'd love to see it in person at AMPS. Best of luck! It looks awesome. I'm actually struggling to cobble something together for the show.

Oh I'm still going! I've been working on finishing the figure sculpting, heck I even started painting the ones that are done...

I have also been touching up the ammo trailer and searching for all of those small projects that are left to finish her up... I hate to say this as I have missed so many shows already, but I would like to get this done for AMPS international in April... fingers crossed! It will be ssssoooo close!

A little more work, a near disaster, and closer to done!

I decided to get the steering wheel on there, so I needed to take a look at the etch parts... Hmmm... where did I put those? Well after a bit of treasure hunting (and good discoveries lost in the stash) I finally found the tin I had put them in! Sadly the etch is a flat and overly wide four spoke piece... that's no good. I tried thinning the kit wheel, but that just wasn't cutting it either. I ended up using the kit ring, some brass rod (.016), and the photo etch hub. I used a couple drops of epoxy to give the hub some shape.
Here it is before painting...

The installation though, pshew, that was a near disaster! I ended up with super glue on the dash, and goobered up on the steering shaft.... Noooooo! I was able to scrape it off, with the paint of course. Repainting the steering wheel, not so bad. Repainting the dash, very scary! I didn't want to brush it in. So I turned the pressure way down and sprayed it (while holding my breath!).

I'm glad that worked out!
I went ahead and mounted the fuel cans and straps on the fender.

And that is pretty much it for now!

Yeah, it looks like you are right. There isn't enough of a dip in the front of the fender either to be a Protze. It looks like there is a fold down windshield there, and maybe a canvas covering a side mounted spare... but in truth there just isn't enough to make a call...

It does look like I can get close if I turn the ammo cart around backwards.

Any way, here is a side shot of the first layer of dust on the Horch...

I have been working on the base quite a bit too.
The wash and dry brush went well...

I have some more bits and pieces to add, as well as pastels, but it is getting close to done!

As always any insights are appreciated!

Thanks for looking...

not saying it isn't but I don't think its a protz you cant see the bumper or the headlight which you would see between grill and fender ...?????? I thought it might be part of a sidecar...???

Glad you're back J, and thanks for the positive feedback on the base. I know I've been greeting fired up as this project gets closer to the end... Maybe a little too fired up! I gotta keep the pace, no rushing! I almost blew it last night with a poorly executed layer of dust!
I have another dilemma too. I believe that I have identified the vehicle immediately behind the Horch, I almost positive that it is a Protze... So, do I ignore it, or do I build it... I'm weighing all that out now...
I should have some update photos this weekend, I kind of got out of the habit with all the sculpting, but there has been some progress in other areas!
That's it for now!
