O.K.....here's a farthing's worth just to 'stir the soup'

Staff Sargeant Pool was an incredible American hero. His greatest talent? Tenacity.
Now, that said. In Pool's own words regarding his Gunner Wilis Oller, "He could shoot the eyebrows off a knat". So, who exactly made all those kills, Pool, the tenacious TC who almost invariably always rode on the outside of his tank, or Willis Oller, the man behind that big long tube thingie where the shells come out and go Boom!?!

Just a question.

Tread.

How's that Pak?

big long tube thingie?
now your starting to sound like my wife!

Sigh..sometimes things just don't go right, ya know?

To refresh your memory let me state that I spent the weekend with my fortysomething wargame buddies, rolling dice and pushing cardboard and inciting each other to rash judgements. Any of you who have ever played a wargame know what I mean. Now, then...
One of these guys is a senior Intel engineer with a couple of s@#$-hot game computers networked in his den. He's got a WW2 armor simulation that plays rather like a traditional board game. Normally I'm dismissive of these things but this one is pretty cool. Wish I could remember the name :-). I played a solitaire scenario, that of Wittman's shredding of the vehicle column at Vllers Bocage. I was all hot to bring up my Firefly Vc from the rear of the column and find a nice hiding place to ambush the nasty Tiger. Too smart for my own good, I also gave orders to the other few Shermans and Centaurs to maneuver for an open flank. Sure enough, here comes the Tiger and the halftracks and infantry panic and runn everywhere getting blasted. A Sherman and two Stuarts go up in flames, Wittman the computer is doing well. The Firefly is sneaking up through town. Suddenly Tiger stops, and little black-clad figures run away into the woods. What has hppened? A shot from a Centaur immobilized the Tiger's running gear, so the crew bailed out. My vaunted Firefly had to settle for brewing up an already ABANDONED Tiger! Just thought you'd find the interlude interesting, guys.

Thanks Greg, that was fun. And your descriptive prose really helped me paint the proper mental picture so I could enjoy the visuals vicariously through your post. :-)

Thx,

Tread.
