DKM Bismark or DKM Tirpitz battleships in 1/350...
There are a few makers for this two 1/350 ships. I am not going to discuss or analyze the makers and the quality of their products, but this after market product intended to replace the "business end" of the class , the main armament.
The set
This JB Models set is comprised of eight turned aluminum barrels packed in a plastic zip lock bag. This will replace the barrels on all four turrets.
Barrel dimensions, details (barrel reinforcements) and nozzle are good and it will make a better representation of the real thing in model form.
As with most aluminum/brass barrels you will need to do the necessary "surgery": Simply cut off the original plastic barrel and drill a hole in the remaining ring so that you can insert the metal barrel, and fix it using Cyanoacrylate adhesives. Since the real ships had blast bags on all barrels, this is something you have to scratch built to have a more realistic feature.
Notes...
As with KGV barrels set, some instructions would be nice, although not critical.
Also, I wonder if JB-Models would consider improving this set, by including resin blast bags... it would improve the set and make the modelers happier for skipping a always difficult task of reproducing in a equal form all of the blast bags - this is a suggestion, not a critic.
Many thanks to JB-Models.eu for providing the item for review and for Darren Baker (CMOT) for redirecting them to Modelshipwrights. SUMMARY | Highs: Good dimensions and details, easy to apply, good value for the money Lows: None Verdict: Again a great improvement over the model parts, with a easy to apply situation with great results. Good quality/price ratio. Highly recommended. | |
