We are very happy to announce the return of the Model of the Month contest to Armorama for Armor/AFV builds. The new contest is being sponsored by SAM Publications & Scale Military Modeling International and they will be judging the entries and providing a prize package for the winner each month, as well as the potential for the winner to be featured in SMMI!
So dust off your camera and start taking photos of a recent build. You can read more about the contest on the official info page which is here. The first months contest will close for entries on October 31st, 2015 and the winner will be announced on November 1st.

Good luck to all those who enter!

nice, but that means no user vote any longer?

It means no user vote as regards this competition; however that will not be the case for the figure competition once we get it going again.

In my opinion any contest like this should be judged by your peers, not allowing someone to make an arbitrary choice. I have seen this in IPMS and what it can lead to, which is why I no longer enter any thing into IPMS shows. For this site, I think there SHOULD be a peer judged contest. I was excited when I first saw it was back, but then let down by how it would be judged. Disappointed in this new contest, and don't think it will lead to any more site traffic.

Hi Nick, For this month at least. I have to get with the sponsors at some point to clarify that our past rules work for the new contest. Since this is being judged by them I think it's entirely possible it could change. Thanks, Jim

It also made the management of the last contest a whole lot more work and more complicated. Sadly we just don't have the staffing level to handle more right now anyway. As for more site traffic our numbers aren't any different from last year when the contest was running so we really haven't seen any adverse effect from not running a contest. We will also be getting a dedicated space in SMMI for the contest winner and a page for advertising KitMaker Network and our sites. So I don't see how that wouldn't mean more traffic in the big picture. Don't get me wrong I liked the old system of voting. I created it after all, but this again is their show as they are fully sponsoring the contest. Cheers, Jim

I see your point here but as far as I'm concerned I would prefer a neutral judging over the "bring your gang to up-vote your entry" approach. I'm not saying that would happen here but just like you had your bad experience with the IPMS shows others might have theirs with the user-voted contests. Plus, we are talking about publishers in the branch. I'm sure they know how to tell apart good and bad models and select what is best for their publications. If they had preferences for one or the other builder... sorry, modeller!... why go the long and expensive way of a contest instead of contacting them directly? Again, I'm not saying one or the other way is better... I just meant to say don't give up on posting. We are all showing off our work here every once in a while so why not upload an extra picture for the contest!? Cheers Cristian

Why are figures not allowed on the models? IMHO it's the figures that give the vehicle scale and life
